Okay, Spring, I'm exhausted. Can we please slow down a bit? Sheesh.
While all this warm, sunny weather is lovely, it's crazy trying to keep up with the yard which was abruptly awakened from its winter slumber. The grass is thick and green--like carpeting. After fertilizing a week or so ago, you can almost hear it growing. I'm not joking when I tell you that we've had to cut it THREE times this week.
The plants are all popping green shoots and then....leaves--in a matter of minutes, it seems. The redbud tree is blooming--an entire month early. The snowdrops and crocus came and went in hours. I moved the pond heater to find 3 lily pads battling for surface space. Mother Nature must be chug-a-luggin' 5 Hour Energy--girlfriend is on high speed.
We did a small water change on the pond yesterday and fired up the pump and waterfall. While that sounds easy enough, it isn't. This ended up being a half-day affair as we replaced hoses and raised the skimmer. These both required digging and moving plants, shuffling flagstone, and laying mulch. Needless to say, both Joe and I are a tad stiff today. The frogs---well, they found the whole adventure amusing, popping up their heads periodically to see if we were finished.
The temps are supposed to drop this week, somewhat back to "normal", but I'm not sad. I need a break. Mother Nature is wearing us out. I'm just really hoping I won't have to the cut the grass......again.

I'm tired just reading all of that? We already got our cool down on Saturday. It now feels more like typical March weather.
Look at all your lovely green! And your beautiful hostas!! Tell you what Lin...I can send you some of our snow and you send me some of that lovely green grass. Deal? Huh? What do you say? Come on friend ~ do me a solid and send me some of that sun!
xo Catherine
Ann--While the warm weather was nice, it's just too darn early! We have to ease into all that yard work, ya know?
Catherine--Okay, but I'm just gonna warn you that it is exhausting! It's kind of early to be doing inside AND outside work already. I'm pooped!
Wow, your grass looks a lot better than ours!
We've had a few unusually warm days for March as well. I know April will be just the opposite ;-)Hobbes looks very handsome in the picture.
It has been crazy warm here too, but frost is on the way tonite. Some folks put in their gardens already and are going to have to cover them tonite.. Crazy I tell ya.
We had our first beautiful day yesterday - mid 60ies and gloriously sunny. So of course it is going to rain today.
I washed all of the bedding and hung it on the line to dry. It was heaven sleeping last night.
I cracked up when I read the part about the five-hour energy drink. Hang in there. You'll catch up. Can't wait for more frog reports.
It's really crazy how it's all exploded outside! I do worry that there will be a cold snap and hurt all the buds and tender plants.
That Mother Nature has been a [very] bad girl this year. :)
Nice photo!
It all happened to fast for me, too. I was wearing shorts for a few days, and while that felt great it's just too much heat, too much growing all at once. Here in New York, we are about 6 weeks ahead of schedule. We haven't had to mow but the weeds are sure getting big!
Early March has been here for a while with the typical March winds...it's just weather...
I'm cold! Bring back the warm!!!
I agree- I hate it when the winter fades directly into summer temps. I love a good cool spring!
Your grass looks much nicer and softer then the grass where I live. I like seeing Gracie in the back there!
Yeah, no fair. It's costing us dearly to avoid a "wintery March" and there isn't one to avoid! Worse, we missed the daffodil/tulip bloom, and someone is bound to call the "yard police" on us before we get home.
I hear ya loud and clear sister...the warm weather has moved me outside and waddlin' in sore!!!
I fear I may need a lift to arise at dark thirty tomorrow. Heeehehehe!
God bless ya and have an excellent week sweetie!!! :o)
Your winter sounds like our typical winter but this year we're the ones getting cold and snow. I much prefer the smell of fresh cut grass to snow!
Duni--Oh my gosh, the lawn is like carpeting. No kidding. You just want to take off your shoes and wiggle your toes in it. :) So, I do.
Diane--Oh, silly people! It's still gonna frost for awhile yet. Heck, I'm expecting one more snow yet. (you never know!)
Pricilla--Don't you love sheets on the line??! I do!! How nice for little Jim to enjoy the first warm days of spring. :)
Betty--I can't keep up right now. I need more hours in the day!!!
Liz--I'm worried about the plants and all the bugs. It's warm during the day, but the nights are still very cold.
Chuck--She is fickle, isn't she?
Rebecca--I'm with you--it is too hot too fast. All of the plants are on hyper-speed. It's not good.
Grace--Did you get all the hot weather?? Gees, it was crazy hot here.
Diana--Can we please have the 60's and the 70's for awhile??
Nancy--Me too! Let's ease into all this work!
Daisy--Oh, Daisy, you would LOVE this grass. Hobbes and Grace roll on their backs on it and then they eat it. Well....then they throw it up too--but I don't like that part very much.
Vanilla--Oh, your neighbors are gonna be mad! ;) You are gonna need a cow if you don't hurry home!
Nezzy--Oh, my lazy bones are not used to all this outside work! I'm hurtin' too, pally.
Beaded Tail--Yeah, I'm not sure I want snow either. I guess I won't complain about it anymore. ;)
yep I was looking at our grass like this is only March!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to have a pond. Until I read posts like this one.
